形态描述：植株高（20）30-100（150）厘米。根状茎直立，短而粗健，粗2-2.5厘米，木质，密蓬松的黄褐色鳞片。叶簇生；柄坚硬，长10-30厘米或更长，基部粗3-4毫米，深禾秆色至浅褐色，幼时密被与根状茎上同样的鳞片，以后渐变稀疏；叶片倒披针状长圆形，长20-90厘米或更长，宽5-25厘米或更宽，一回羽状；顶生羽片与侧生羽片同形，侧生羽多数（可达40对），互生或有时近对生，下部羽片较疏离，相距3-4厘米，斜展，无柄，不与叶轴合生，向下羽片逐渐缩短，基部羽片仅为耳形，中部羽片最长，狭线形，长6-15厘米宽5-10毫米，先端渐尖，基部扩大并为浅心脏形，其两侧稍呈耳形，上侧耳片较大并常覆盖叶轴，各羽片间的间隔宽约1-1.5厘米，不育的叶缘有微细而均匀的密锯齿，不为软骨质。主脉下面隆起并为浅禾秆色，侧脉纤细，密接，斜展，单一或分叉。叶干后薄革质，暗绿色，无光泽，无毛；叶轴禾秆色，疏被鳞片。在成熟的植株上除下部缩短的羽片不育外，几乎全部羽片均能育。
